Our mapping and research activities aim to continuously map civic education in Europe, mainly focusing on non-formal (outside of school and university) and informal (i.e. at work) civic education. By identifying stakeholders and actors, the topics they work on, their target groups and networks, we want to assess their needs and assets. The analysis informs the work of relevant institutions and stakeholders, but also helps THE CIVICS design activities and formats that best serve the needs of citizens and civic educators in Europe.

Mapping civic education in Europe is a flagship project of THE CIVICS meant to identify civic education actors in two dozen of European countries by the end of 2022. The result will be a comprehensive online map that visualises among others the connections, common challenges, opportunities to share knowledge, experience and to collaborate. The project is supported by the German Federal Agency for Civic Education (Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung/bpb).
